Due to the Tour Championship taking place this week, there was no official PGA tour event last weekend. The only tournament of note was the European Tour’s Austrian Open in which George Coetzee, Keith Horne and Michiel Bothma were the South Africans involved.

George Coetzee performed well to be the leader after the first round, shooting a 7-under 65. A disappointing 76 in the second round all but destroyed his chances to challenge for the event, but he recovered admirably with a solid 69 in the third and 72 in the fourth round to end at 6-under in 26th place.

Fellow South African Keith Horne started off with a 74 in the first round and a 70 in the second round to make the cut at even par. A 69 in the third round and 71 in the fourth took him to a score of 4 under par which placed him in thirty-sixth place.

Michiel Bothma had a disappointing tournament, starting off with an 80 and then a 77 which left him at 13 over par after two days, missing the cut.

Ernie Els, Retief Goosen and Tim Clark rested last weekend due to their qualification for the Tour Championship. Ernie Els, currently in eighth place in the FedEx Cup standings is the only one of the three who can win the FedEx playoffs, and even then, only if he wins the tournament and other results go in his favour.
