Philander joins '200 club' at Wanderers
Tue, 03 Apr 2018 12:04 PMVernon Philander has become just the seventh South African to 200 Test wickets during Day 5 of the fourth and final Test at the Wanderers on Tuesday.
It took him just four balls on the fifth morning to get to the milestone.
Having started the day on 198 wickets, Philander struck immediately with the first ball of the day when he had Shaun Marsh (7) caught by Temba Bavuma.
Philander then took his magical 200th wicket just three balls later as the other Marsh - Mitchell - was caught behind by Quinton de Kock.
Philander joins Shaun Pollock (421), Dale Steyn (419), Makhaya Ntini (390), Allan Donald (330), Morne Morkel (309*) and Jacques Kallis (291) as the only men to reach the milestone.
He also becomes the fourth fastest to 200 after Steyn, Donald and Pollock - in that order.
The third Test at Newlands saw Morkel become just the fifth South African to get to 300 Test wickets.
Meanwhile, Morkel, playing in his final Test match at the Wanderers, was given a guard of honour by the Proteas when he took to the field on Tuesday morning.
