South Africa claimed a consolation win by thumping Australia by an innings and 20 runs at Newlands on Sunday. iafrica.com sports editor Rob Peters takes a closer look at all the players and gives his ratings.

SOUTH AFRICAN RATINGS:

Ashwell Prince: Welcome back Ashwell Prince! He was asked to open the batting, came in under a storm of controversy, and stroke his way to a glorious 150! You could not ask for any more from the gritty batsman. 10/10

Imran Khan: Not the best debut for the Dolphins opener with a dropped catch early on and then just 20 with the bat. He showed that he is capable early on his knock, however, and still has a future in international cricket. 5/10

Hashim Amla: Another start for Amla without pushing on, which is becoming a worry for the wristy number three. A big score would be most welcome, but he did little wrong. 6/10

Jacques Kallis: Burdened with the captaincy, as well as his batting and bowling duties, Kallis shouldered them all manfully and excelled. He was masterful with the bat ? albeit after a slow start ? and did the job with the ball as well. His captaincy was also well received. 9/10

AB de Villiers: What a knock! The Proteas batsman continued his excellent form at Newlands with - what for me - was the innings of the summer. Add to that some superb catches and AB quite simply had a blinder. 10/10

JP Duminy: A disappointing Test for the talented middle order batsman, but he was bound to fail at some point. 3/10

Mark Boucher: The veteran ?keeper?s run drought continues, but in the absence of Smith, he stepped up in the leadership stakes and showed his worth to the team. 5/10

Albie Morkel: Replacing his younger bother, Morne, Albie Morkel picked up the prize wicket of Ricky Ponting with the ball and then blasted a fantastic 50 with the bat. He would have liked to pick up more wickets, however, and his lack of penetration with the ball is a concern. 7/10

Paul Harris: The Titans spinner came of age in his home town with a fantastic performance. His match figures of 9/161 were just reward and rightfully earned him the Man of the Match award. 9/10

Dale Steyn: A welcome return to form for the South African speedster. He came in for a bit of a pummelling by Mitchell Johnson in Australia?s second innings, but Steyn?s 4/56 in the first innings helped lay the platform for a big victory. 7/10

Makhaya Ntini: He only picked up two wickets for his efforts, but the veteran seamer continued to toil manfully and provided a good foil for Steyn, particularly in the first innings. 6/10
