The ICC task force appointed to assess the current situation of
cricket in Zimbabwe has arrived in the country on a three-day
fact-finding mission.
The team, led by president of the West Indies Cricket Board, Dr
Julian Hunte, will seek to establish the current state of cricket in
Zimbabwe as it relates to the management and development of the game
and also to conduct an assessment of the policies and programmes
executed to date with the view to restoring the senior team to Test
cricket.
It is carrying out a detailed inspection of the cricket
administration, facilities, resources and capabilities in Zimbabwe,
including all areas contained in the Full Member guidelines.
On behalf of the team, Dr Hunte will make recommendations to the ICC
Board at its January 2009 meeting. These recommendations will include
constructive strategies and initiatives to assist Zimbabwe to improve
its cricket in all respects and to aid its return to Test cricket as
soon as possible.
The team, which was directly appointed by the ICC Board, comprises
the following ICC Directors: Dr Julian Hunte (team leader), Arjuna
Ranatunga, Haroon Lorgat.
This visit to Zimbabwe from November 17 to 19 is the first phase for
the task force. It is enabling the team to meet with a wide range of
cricket stakeholders in Zimbabwe and to view facilities first hand.
