The Eagles clinched a dramatic victory over the Sussex Sharks as their Champions League Twenty20 match was decided on a super-over.
Sussex had managed 119/7 in their knock and the Eagles scored 119/4 in the chase to set up the single over decider.
The South Africans scored nine runs through Rilee Rossouw and Ryan McLaren in their over before bowler CJ de Villiers bowled Dwayne Smith and Rory Hamilton-Brown with the first two balls of Sussex reply.
The win is enough to see the Eagles through to the Super Eight stage of the competition, where they will join fellow South Africans, the Cobras.
The Eagles have Ryan McLaren to thank, as much as De Villiers, after bowler smashed a four off the final ball of the SA team's innings ? needing five to win.
Earlier, they had looked well in control after Rilee Rossouw got them off to a solid start with his maiden T20 half-century, but despite his heroics a batting slump almost cost them dearly.
In the end, however, McLaren did enough to set up the super over, and then it was down to De Villiers to wrap things up.
Got something to say?
