The Eagles were knocked out of the T20 Champions League on Sunday after a 24-run loss to an impressive Trinidad & Tobago on Sunday.

It was always going to be tough for the Eagles to secure a place in the semifinals after the West Indies side posted a formidable total of 213/4.

That the South Africans needed to reach the target in 14.2 overs — in order to overtake T&T's net run-rate — to make it into the final four only made it more difficult.

T&T got off to a rollicking start with teenage opener Adrian Barath hammering 63 runs off just 41 balls before he was eventually bowled by Dillon du Preez. But the bulk of the damage was already done as Barath helped his side score the highest total of the tournament — outdoing the Cobras' 193/4 against Otago.

The Eagles made a good go of it with Rilee Rossouw racing to 44 off 19 balls, sharing in a 54-run opening partnership with Morne van Wyk before the latter was gone for 25.

Rossouw was gone in the seventh over, and while Boeta Dippenaar and Dillon du Preez kept the SA team's hopes alive with a fourth-wicket stand of 58, when the duo were gone the challenge went with them.
