A procession of fielding blunders and one brilliant over proved the difference between the sides as Trinidad and Tobago recorded a seven-wicket victory over the Cape Cobras in Thursday?s second Champions League semifinal.

The Cobras looked destined to score a much total than the 175 they reached had it not been for a brilliant final over from West Indian seamer Ravi Rampaul which conceded only two runs.

A score of 175 is still a tough one to chase and with the capture of three reasonably early wickets, the Cobras would have fancied their chances of restricting their opponents from the Caribbean had several dropped catches and misfields - Henry Davids being the main culprit ? been avoided.

Cobras captain Andrew Puttick won the toss and elected to bat first on what looked a wicket decent for batting.

Puttick (10) was the first to go, with Davids dismissed shortly after, but the evergreen Herschelle Gibbs showed once more that calls for him to retire are premature.

When Gibbs (42) was eventually dismissed ? playing a hasty pull-shot that saw his leg stump cartwheel back, JP Duminy took over the responsibility of seeing the Cobras to a decent score.

Along with Rory Kleinveldt (21), Duminy (61 not out) illustrated why he is so highly rated locally and abroad with another classy knock, and with him at the wicket, the Cobras looked set for a score in excess of 180 until Rampaul delivered his over.

The Trinidad and Tobago reply started in aggressive fashion as William Perkins (20) and Adrian Barath (29) added 53 for the first wicket.

The dangerous Lendl Simmons (20) was dismissed just as he was starting to look dangerous, and with the score on 85/3 in the 11th over, still requiring another 91 off less than 10 overs, the Cobras were arguably favourites.

Experienced pair Darren Ganga (44 not out) and Dwayne Bravo (58 not out) lived a charmed life at the crease and could both have been dismissed on several occasions had the Cobras done their fielding drills properly one feels.

Bravo in particular was harsh on the bowling after having a life ? or two ? and spared no one.

T & T had reached exactly the same score ? 173 ? after 19 overs - but with only 3 more runs to play with, Rory Kleinveld - given the responsibility to bowl the final over ? was unable to recreate the Rampaul?s heroics as ?Man of the Match? Bravo hit the second delivery four to win the match for his team.
