Australia veteran Brett Lee showed his class to lead New South Wales to a 41-run victory over Trinida & Tobago in the Champions League final on Friday.

Lee may be better known for sending down thunderbolts, but the seamer first produced with the bat for NSW. Coming to the crease with his side in trouble on 83/6, Lee smashed a fantastic 48 off just 31 balls to help lift the side to 159/9.

Too many NSW specialist batsmen had got themselves out softly earlier on in their innings, but Lee, along with partnerships from Steven Smith and Nathan Hauritz, ensured the Australians had something to defend.

Lee then took control with the ball in hand, picking up the wickets of William Perkins and Lendl Simmons in his first two overs. Stuart Clark, who claimed three for 21 to wrap up the tail, and Doug Bollinger also came to the party, while spinners Hauritz and Smith each claimed two wickets.

Kieron Pollard, who emerged as one of the heroes of this tournament for his powerful hitting, smashed 26 off 15 balls to stage a rescue act, but when he was caught by Lee long-on, the gig was up for the West Indies team.
