Damp end to Pro20 opener
Thu, 04 Feb 2010 12:00
Rain forced the Pro20 match between the Dolphins and the Titans
to be abandoned at Kingsmead on Wednesday.
The Dolphins managed to score 86 for three off 13.3 overs
before the second spell of rain during the evening forced a
no-result.
Each team will take two points from the match.
After winning the toss and electing to bat the Dolphins found
themselves in early trouble as they slipped to 44 for three in the
eighth over.
The home side's innings was then given a semblance of
respectability thanks to a fourth-wicket stand of 42-runs between
Ahmed Amla and Dave Miller.
The 20-year-old Miller has already built a reputation as a big
hitter and he did not disappoint as the left-hander launched two
huge sixes over deep midwicket.
Miller ended the innings not out on 30 off 21 balls while Amla
chipped in with an unbeaten 29.
The Dolphins' innings was interrupted twice. The players were
off the field for 12 minutes because of a floodlight failure before
rain halted play for an hour and 20 minutes.
The KwaZulu-Natal franchise had reached 80 for three in 13 overs
before the rain came and after the break they faced just three more
balls before the second rain delay resulted in the Dolphins'
innings being closed.
The rain did not let up resulting in the match being called
off.
Seamer Ethy Mbahlati was the stand-out performer for the Titans
as he returned figures of two for 15 off three overs.
