The Chevrolet Warriors strengthened their grip on third position on the final SuperSport Series log when they beat the Nashua Cape Cobras by 236 runs with more than a day to spare at Buffalo Park on Saturday.

The Cobras were dismissed for a miserable 74 in their second innings with the two seamers, Darryl Brown and Zander de Bruyn, taking four wickets each. It meant that the visitors had a combined aggregate of less than 200 for their two innings.

Davy Jacobs managed to complete his century (101 off 153 balls, 11x4, 1x6) before the Warriors were all out for 197 in their second innings which left the Cobras an improbable 311 for victory.

Farhaan Behardien was also among the runs for the Nashua Titans at the Liberty Life Wanderers Stadium (114 off 172 balls, 13x4, 4x6) to enable his side to avoid the follow on against the bizhub Highveld Lions.

The Lions chased the runs at the start of their second innings at a rate of more than five to the over, giving them an overall lead of 251 by the close with eight wickets in hand. Alviro Petersen, a first innings centurion, was again in form (65 not out off only 52 balls, 15x4).

The Nashua Titans were officially crowned the SuperSport Series Champions for the 2008/2009 Season during the tea break. This is the third time the Pretoria outfit has lifted the trophy and it caps off another successful season for them.

?It has been awesome, last year when we won two trophies it was a bit of a dream, but to repeat that feat this season has been fabulous. It has been a team effort, everyone contributed. When the chips were down there was always someone who came in and played well?, said the delighted Titans skipper, Pierre Joubert.

CSA President Dr Mtutuzeli Nyoka handed over the trophy and was full of praise for the Franchise.

?The Titans absolutely deserve it. This is the third time they have won this competition. This franchise is a great example of a well-run unit. Have a look at the number of players they have in the national team, the leadership and administrators, that is where part of their success comes from.
