Borde set for manager's role
2007-06-12 15:29:00

Former chairman of selectors Chandu Borde looks set to take up the role of India team manager for the summer tour of the UK and Ireland.

The 72-year-old ex-national team captain and all-rounder will take over the reins from Ravi Shastri, who was interim manager for the recent series in Bangladesh.

Borde, who has not yet been given official confirmation of his appointment by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), told Indian News Channel CNN-IBN: "I am very happy."

On the likely plan of action, he added: "First, let me get the official confirmation from the BCCI and after that I will have to sit down and talk things over with the players and people concerned."

India are still looking for a new coach after Kent's director of cricket Graham Ford declined an offer to succeed Greg Chappell, who stepped down after the World Cup.
