2007-06-05 08:49:00

Kent's director of cricket Graham Ford has emerged as one of the favourites to take control of India's national team.

Ford, coach of South Africa from 1999 to 2001 prior to him taking over at Canterbury in 2004, has been named by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

BCCI officials say they will hold talks with Ford in Chennai on Saturday about the position of national team coach.

Reports in India claim there is another unnamed contender for the post, believed to be Sri Lankan Arjuna Ranatunga who reportedly expressed his interest in the position in a letter to chairman of selectors Sunil Gavaskar.
