New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris is hoping personal success will be replicated by that of his team in the 2007 World Cup.
Styris, 31, hit 268 runs at an average in excess of 50 during the last campaign in South Africa but the Black Caps failed to reach the semi-finals. He also began this tournament with a man-of-the-match display against England, hitting an unbeaten 87 after claiming two wickets with his medium pace. Victory over Kenya at Beausejour would secure their safe passage to the Super Eight stage. "I guess the big tournaments are where all the players want to show they are good players," said Styris. "I finished the last World Cup with handy numbers and it would be nice to do the same but this time with a winning New Zealand team." New Zealand have done their homework on 2003 semi-finalists Kenya, tapping Englishman Andy Moles, a former Kenyan coach now based in their domestic cricket, for information. Kenya began their Group C campaign with a comfortable seven-wicket victory over the Canadians. Captain Steve Tikolo starred with both bat and ball, hitting an unbeaten 72 and taking two wickets with his off-spin, and hopes his team can maintain their form. "I believe in my players, I do have confidence in them," Tikolo said. "They know this is the World Cup and this is the big stage. "Our aim is to play each game as it comes, try to be as competitive as we can, we have been doing the little things right. "We just had a tournament in Nairobi where we won the World Cricket League, which involved the associate countries, so we have momentum coming into this tournament. "But it's not going to be easy so we mustn't lie to ourselves." Fixtures *SA Times
