Bad Hair XI
2007-03-29 10:23:40

No, this feature has nothing to do with that rather large Aussie umpire Darrell Hair. But rather to do with some large hairdos... or, in some cases, hairdon'ts.

MAJID HAQ - SCOTLAND:
The Paisley-born batsman has a 'do reminiscant of the Hawaiian crooner Glenn Medeiros.

MOHAMMED ASHRUFEL - BANGLADESH:
I'd bet my monthly wages that this young pup has had the same hairstyle since his first year at pre-school. Remember the kid with the Paul McCartney hairstyle from the Beatles' earlier era? That's the one.

HAMISH MARSHALL - NEW ZEALAND:
A new addition to the World Cup and fresh off the plane from Down Under (pictured), just in time to earn 'selection' in our team. The guy has an outrageous 'fro that would put OJ Simpson - àla Naked Gun 2½ - to shame.

ANDREW SYMONDS - AUSTRALIA:
What more could be said about the Nik-Naks man?!

KENNY CAROLL - IRELAND:
Three words. Tin-tin at 40.

PIETER SEELAAR - NETHERLANDS:
Dutch squad member Seelaar looks to have taken his styling inspiration from the brilliant 1970s Dutch football team. The old rock mane that should put The Darkness frontman Justin Hawkins in the shade.

JON LEWIS - ENGLAND:
I don't know if the hairdresser he goes to has pictures of England's James I on the wall or not, but the 'do is a royal mess.

SCOTT STYRIS - NEW ZEALAND:
The big all-rounder has the haircut of an adolescent with very little self-esteem. Unfortunately he decided to peroxide the coif. Ouch.

JAMES ANDERSON - ENGLAND:
I'll give him full marks for team spirit, but the 'New Romantic' look had its demise with the now-defunct Spandau Ballet. I know this much is true...

NATHAN BRACKEN - AUSTRALIA:
Reese Witherspoon copies his hairstyles. (Have you seen our lookalikes yet?!) L'Oréal may get him for their next hair grooming range ad campaign 'cos "He's worth it!".

LASITH MALINGA - SRI LANKA:
Wow! The Sri Lankan slinger - SA know all about him... - has killed Pepe le Pew and used the pungent casanova as a barnet. His haircut stinks.

1983 - Kapil Dev smashes Zimbabwe

It was somewhat of a surprise when a young Kapil Dev was appointed as captain of a struggling Indian side shortly before the 1983 World Cup.
