Key Moments
1987 - Gatting's moment of madness

Australia set a challenging, but far from match-winning total of 253 in the 1987 World Cup Final

In reply, England were in complete command at 135/2, when, out of desperation, Australian skipper Allan Border brought himself on to bowl his occasional left-arm spinners.

England captain Mike Gatting reverse-swept his first delivery and was out caught for 41.

His dismissal ultimately spelt the beginning of the end for England, as they got behind the run-rate and lost wickets at regular intervals.

England were eventually dismissed for 246, handing Australia a seven-run victory - the narrowest margin of victory in all World Cup Finals to date.
