The Sharks have raced to the top of the Currie Cup standings and that reflects in our weekly selection, as does the improved form of the Free State Cheetahs.
Our team is dominated by these two sides, with both the Sharks and Cheetahs providing five members each for our starting XV.
The Bulls are next best with three players in our top team, while Western Province and the Lions make up the numbers.
Our Bubbling under selection has a strong Western Province flavour, with both WP and Griquas providing four members each - followed by the Sharks, Lions, Bulls (two each) and Cheetahs.
Our team has a more settled look this week, with six players returning from last week - fullback Stefan Terblanche (Sharks), wing Danwel Demas (Free State Cheetahs), flyhalf Monty Dumond (Sharks), No.8 Dewald Potgieter (Blue Bulls), flank Deon Stegmann (Blue Bulls) and lock Steven Sykes (Sharks).
Team of the Week - Round Seven:
15 - Stefan Terblanche (Sharks);
The two top fullbacks in the competition went head-to-head and Terblanche comfortably won the duel.
Bubbling under: Joe Pietersen (Western Province)
14 - Danwel Demas (Free State Cheetahs):
He is growing into his 15-man role and becoming a very accomplished wing in this code.
Bubbling under: Chris Jordaan (Sharks)
13 - Waylon Murray (Sharks):
His experience and class shone through in a game of great importance.
Bubbling under: Juan de Jongh (Western Province)
12 - Robert Ebersohn (Free State Cheetahs):
And to think he only turned 20 this year. If he keeps maturing at this rate he is likely to add a 15-man cap to his Sevens international status in the not too distant future.
Bubbling under: Doppies la Grange (Golden Lions)
11 - Jongi Nokwe (Free State Cheetahs):
He remains a devastating finisher, one of the best. He still needs to work on some other aspects of his game though.
Bubbling under: Gerhard van den Heever (Blue Bulls)
10 - Monty Dumond (Sharks):
His performances in the last few weeks make you wonder why the Sharks went to such great expense to sign Argentinean Juan Martin Hernandez?
Bubbling under: Naas Olivier (Griquas)
9 - Jano Vermaak (Golden Lions):
One of the few bright sparks in an otherwise ordinary Lions team. Still their most potent strike weapon.
Bubbling under: Charl McLeod (Sharks)
8 - Dewald Potgieter (Blue Bulls):
To think that he is behind Pierre Spies and Ryan Kankowski in the national pecking order. South Africa is truly blessed with quality No.8s.
Bubbling under: Jonathan Mokuena (Griquas)
7 - Jean Deysel (Sharks):
Getting back to his most brutal best.
Bubbling under: Duane Vermeulen (Western Province)
6 - Deon Stegmann (Blue Bulls):
Fetcher, or openside flank, is another area where South Africa is truly blessed with an abundance of great players.
Bubbling under: Franco van der Merwe (Golden Lions)
5 - David de Villiers (Free State Cheetahs):
Just call him Mr Reliable.
Bubbling under: Jacques Lombaard (Griquas)
4 - Steven Sykes (Sharks):
Much of the hard work he does often goes unnoticed, but that is what makes him so effective - he just gets on with his job.
Bubbling under: Flip van der Merwe (Blue Bulls)
3 - Brok Harris (Western Province):
His game has come on in leaps and bounds this year.
Bubbling under: WP Nel (Free State Cheetahs)
2 - Adriaan Strauss (Free State Cheetahs):
Much of the energy in the Cheetahs team in recent weeks have come from his captaincy.
Bubbling under: Tiaan Liebenberg (Western Province)
1 - Dean Greyling (Blue Bulls):
He is a big man, at 193cm and 115kg, but he certainly doesn't look ponderous. A very energetic player.
Bubbling under: Albertus Buckle (Griquas)
