There is no doubt that the Griquas versus Western Province game was the stand-out fixture of the weekend, both in terms of the quality of the rugby and the players.

Not surprising then that eight players from this game made our starting XV this week.

WP and the Free State Cheetahs each provide five members for our Team of the Week, Griquas another three - with the Lions and Sharks one each.

Griquas, still the only unbeaten team, have another five players in our bubbling under selection - with the Sharks (three), Bulls, Cheetahs, WP (two each) and Lions making up the numbers.

We have a higher than usual return rate - eight players back this week.

They are wings Danwell Demas (Free State Cheetahs) and Gio Aplon (Western Province), centres Juan de Jongh (Western Province) and Barry Geel (Griquas), flyhalf Naas Olivier (Griquas), lock Anton van Zyl (Western Province), prop WP Nel (Cheetahs) and hooker Tiaan Liebenberg (Western Province).

Team of the Week - Round Five:

15 - Riaan Viljoen (Griquas): He produced a match-winning performance, both on attack and defence, but it was that 77th-minute drop-goal that sealed the game and got our vote.
Bubbling under: Stefan Terblanche (Sharks)

14 - Danwel Demas (Free State Cheetahs): His evolution from a Sevens specialist to a quality 15-man wing is continuing. His work-rate is exceptional.
Bubbling under: Gerhard van den Heever (Blue Bulls)

13 - Juan de Jongh (Western Province): This young man continues to delight. Certainly showing up some of the more established players in the competition.
Bubbling under: Andries Strauss (Sharks)

12 - Barry Geel (Griquas) You probably won't find his name on too many national short-lists, but he is good value for a very impressive Griquas.
Bubbling under: Robert Ebersohn (Free State Cheetahs)

11 - Gio Aplon (Western Province): Griquas may have hung on for the win, but he can't be faulted for his team not securing the win - in fact he started the comeback and changed the flow of the game.
Bubbling under: Bjorn Basson (Griquas)

10 - Naas Olivier (Griquas): Once again showing the qualities that once had people talking of him as a player that could play international rugby.
Bubbling under: Peter Grant (Western Province)

9 - Jano Vermaak (Lions): He is one of the few genuine strike weapons in a Lions team struggling to cope with the exodus of so many senior players.
Bubbling under: Sarel Pretorius (Griquas)

8 - Ryan Kankowski (Sharks): He made sure the national selectors don't forget about him.
Bubbling under: Willem Alberts (Lions)

7 - Frans Viljoen (Free State Cheetahs): The Cheetahs seem to have a conveyor belt that keeps rolling out good quality loose forwards.
Bubbling under: Jean Deysel (Sharks)

6 - Johan Wessels (Free State Cheetahs): Ditto the previous player.
Bubbling under: Rohan Kitshoff (Griquas)

5 - Anton van Zyl (Western Province): He looks like a player who is playing for the enjoyment and enjoys playing.
Bubbling under: Jacques Lombard (Griquas)

4 - Chris Jack (Western Province): He is a player of international quality and he is adding value to not just WP, but also the competition.
Bubbling under: Flip van der Merwe (Blue Bulls)

3 - WP Nel (Free State Cheetahs): It is worth keeping in mind that his direct opponent was veteran Springbok Gürthro Steenkamp and he Bok prop was made to look ordinary.
Bubbling under: Brok Harris (Western Province)

2 - Tiaan Liebenberg (Western Province): He will not let the Springboks down and with the exception of Bismarck du Plessis is probably the country's form hooker.
Bubbling under: Adriaan Strauss (Free State Cheetahs)

1 - Wian du Preez (Free State Cheetahs): He must just keep at it, that elusive first Test cap is not too far away.
Bubbling under: Albertus Buckle (Griquas)
