Saracens recorded a nail-biting 24-23 win over South Africa at the Wembley Stadium on Tuesday night, the Springboks' third straight loss on the year-end tour.
Despite a slow start, with the Boks leading 18-3 at the break, Saracens came back strongly after the break to score 21 points to a solitary Bok try in the second half.
If ever there was a game of two halves, this was it.
South Africa are still looking for their first win on tour - having now lost to Leicester Tigers, France and Saracens - and face their first winless trip to the Northern Hemisphere since the 1960s.
Len Kaplan rates the Springbok players.
15 Earl Rose:
Safe under high ball, neat flick behind his back on attack, quick hands, kicked good up and under to set up Nokwe's first try, clever inside pass to help set up Nokwe's second try. Two aimless kicks.
7/10
14 Odwa Ndungane:
Not in the game much. Looked clumsy losing ball forward in contact on attack; forward pass to Nokwe an unforced error. One good moment - did well to come off right wing to give final pass near left touchline for Nokwe's second try.
4/10
13 Juan de Jongh:
Showed glimpses of skill, used his feet, good long pass early on to give Nokwe space. His try came from a neat step and deceptive strength. One knock-on in contact, gave away momentum with penalty on ground, tries to force gap on occasion.
6/10
12 Wynand Olivier:
Executed skip pass well, impressive big hit on Derick Hougaard. Didn't threaten Saracens defence often enough on attack.
5/10
11 Jongi Nokwe:
Showed pace, safe under high ball, retained possession in contact, accurate chip kick, first try a reward for good chase of high ball.
7/10
10 Ruan Pienaar:
Goal-kicking erratic again. In first half more assured and fewer errors than against Leicester, more judicious decision-making, better distribution, kicking out of hand better. Kicked 22 drop-out straight into touch; could commit defenders more; ineffective in stopping Brad Barritt's momentum for his try.
5/10
9 Heini Adams:
Overeager at the start, then quick, accurate service. A few good breaks. Subbed at half-time.
6/10
8 Ashley Johnson:
Less impact than against Leicester. Seldom a threat to opposition, options not always sound. Two unnecessary penalties for not releasing. Good chase and contest in the air to set up Nokwe try.
4/10
7 Dewald Potgieter:
Conceded penalty and three points in the first minute for side entry to ruck. Played well after that - workrate high, made tackles, prominent in support, impact in rucks and mauls. One bad knock-on.
6/10
6 Jean Deysel:
Good first half, strong in contact, gave Boks good go-forward, good defence, one great hit, keeps opponents busy. Faded in second half along with many others.
6/10
5 Andries Bekker:
Won a few line-outs, put pressure on Saracens line-out, good pass and great support for Nokwe in one strong first half attack. Not a force in tight-loose, didn't provide strong go-forward. Subbed at half-time.
6/10
4 Alistair Hargreaves:
Impressive jumping and timing to win line-outs. Put pressure on Saracens line-out, high workrate in rucks/mauls, won big turnover early on when Boks under pressure, cleaned forcefully.
7/10
3 CJ van der Linde:
Replaced in 11th minute. Not enough time to be rated.
2 Adriaan Strauss:
Excellent workrate, strong in contact, impressive mobility round field, especially in support. Forward pass in Bok 22 put team under pressure.
7/10
1 Heinke van der Merwe:
Switched from loose-head to tight-head from 11th minute. Sound workrate, got around the field well but made less impact as tight-head scrummager than he usually does as loose-head.
5/10
Replacements:
16 Bandise Maku: (on for Strauss in 69th min):
Not enough time to be rated.
17 Wian du Preez: (on for Van der Linde in 11th min):
Impressed more with mobility than for potent scrummaging. Fair game without being a force.
6/10
18 Danie Rossouw: (on for Bekker in 40th min):
Not the presence an experienced Test Bok should be. Powerful on the drive a few times, but didn't bring anything special to the Bok second half performance.
5/10
19 Davon Raubenheimer: (on for Johnson in 69th min):
One good line-out steal. Not enough time to be rated.
20 Francois Hougaard: (on for Adams in 41st min):
Unhappy game for him. Relief kick charged down gave Saracens their first try; ineffective tackle on Brad Barritt gave Saracens their second try. Decision-making ordinary.
3/10
21 Meyer Bosman: (on for Olivier in 69th min):
Not enough time to be rated.
22 Riaan Viljoen: (on for Pienaar in 69th min):
Not enough time to be rated.
Got something to say?
