England produced one of their finest one-day performances in recent memory to knock the favoured Proteas out of the ICC Champions trophy on Sunday.
Despite a magnificent fighting century by captain Graeme Smith, the home team fell 22 runs short of their target of 323.
The South African bowlers will unfortunately have to take the brunt of the blame for the defeat, after a fairly poor effort in the field.
iafrica.com Head of Sport Rob Peters rates the Proteas players.
Graeme Smith
The Proteas skipper showed tremendous bravery in a losing cause, but ultimately it was not enough. Not for lack of trying though? 10/10.
Herschelle Gibbs
Much was expected of the veteran opener, but after a solid start to his innings he was gone to a soft dismissal. You have to ask how many more chances Gibbs will be given in the hope of coming off. 3/10.
Jacques Kallis
Not the best game for the veteran all-rounder, who was battling with injury. Picked up the wicket of Denly before being forced out of the attack injured. He also failed to make his mark with the bat. 4/10.
AB de Villiers
Did some good things in the field and played well for his 36, but he would be disappointed in the manner of his dismissal? as were we. 6/10.
JP Duminy
Another solid start, but again he failed to push on ? a worrying trend. 3/10.
Mark Boucher
He took a fantastic catch to see the end of Strauss, but he also failed to deliver when it counted with the bat. 4/10.
Albie Morkel
He continues to struggle with the ball in hand, which has to be a major concern to the team. He comes in too late, which while no fault of his own, serves to highlight his bowling issues further?2/10.Johan Botha
One of the better bowlers on the day, Botha continues to grow into one of the team?s most important members. 6/10.
Roelof van der Merwe
The fiery Van der Merwe was due an off-game after excelling in the previous two outings and it came on Sunday. 2/10.
Dale Steyn
The Proteas seamer failed to deliver with the ball after going wicketless and at more than 5 runs per over. 3/10.
Wayne Parnell
Started off a bit loose, but came back well in his second spell to pick up the wicket of Strauss, followed it up with another two wickets in his third. He continues to leak runs, however, which will be a concern. 6/10.
