South Africa was undone by Duckworth-Lewis and Eoin Morgan on Friday as England and the rain conspired to beat Graeme Smith and his mean by one run. We rate the Proteas players.

Graeme Smith: The big left-hander looked in good touch with the bat, hammering 41 off 38 before holing out to deep cover. 7/10

Loots Bosman: The aggressive opener was very impressive during his knock, smashing 58 off just 31 balls, and along with Smith threatened to take the game away from England before being forced into a loose shot. 8/10

JP Duminy: The rising star failed to deliver with the bat and was not given an opportunity with the ball. 3/10

AB de Villiers: He needed to show more urgency at the crease with the rain starting to fall. Losing by just one run with wickets in hand is a little hard to swallow and could have been avoided. 2/10

Albie Morkel: Like De Villiers, the Proteas all-rounder showed little intent with the bat, and again, failed to threaten with the ball in hand? 2/10

Mark Boucher: Did not get a chance to bat, but did little wrong behind the stumps. 7/10

Ryan McLaren: Was the pick of the bowlers as the rest of the attack went for plenty and had little to show for it. Three wickets and a handy economy rate. 7/10

Johan Botha: Went for plenty in his two overs and failed to make a breakthrough? 3/10

Roelof van der Merwe: One of the better bowlers, if SA opt to field just one spinner in future, you would have to think Van der Merwe would fill the position.

Dale Steyn: One wicket, but like the bulk of the SA bowling attack, Steyn was also expensive. 5/10

Charl Langeveldt He failed to fill the savior role that was, unfairly, given to him and, like Steyn, was expensive. 5/10
