The Proteas slumped to a disappointing 7-wicket loss to England at Centurion on Sunday. We rate the players.

Graeme Smith: Was gone cheaply when he tried to steer one to third man. Not a great game for the Proteas skipper? 3/10

Hashim Amla: Did well to lay a platform for those that came in after him, but struggled to score freely, and would have been unhappy to not push on from his 50. 6/10

AB de Villiers: Came in at number three and was gone early ? courtesy of a great catch by Paul Collingwood off Anderson. 3/10

JP Duminy: Along with Amla built a solid platform, but he too failed to push on. He needs to start replicating his domestic form for the national team. 4/10

Alviro Petersen: The best batsman for the South Africans, Petersen kept the English bowlers at bay with a well-paced knock that lifted the hosts? score to a far more respectable one. He did some good work in the field as well. 7/10

Ryan McLaren: He was pushed up the batting order, but failed to repay the faith shown by management. Like the rest of the Proteas bowlers he failed to seriously trouble the English batsmen. 4/10

Albie Morkel: He failed to get the scoreboard ticking over and was again gone cheaply. He picked up the wicket of Kevin Pietersen, but could not follow through with another. 4/10

Mark Boucher Did his best to launch with the bat, but he came in too late to really have a major impact. Did little else wrong. 6/10

Roelof van der Merwe: Not his best performance as he failed to restrict the English batsmen. Was the most expensive SA bowler and went wicketless to boot. 3/10

Dale Steyn: Expensive and wicketless, Steyn battled throughout. Worrying signs from SA leading seamer? 3/10.

Charl Langeveldt: The pick of SA?s bowler, the veteran quick did his best to turn things around, but he got little support from his fellow bowlers. 7/10
