Ochoa hosts Invitational
Article By:
World number one Lorena Ochoa is hostess of the Lorena Ochoa Invitational this week, but that won't stop her from trying to win an eighth title of 2008 at the expense of a star-studded field.
Mexico's Ochoa, who has already clinched LPGA Player of the Year honors, grew up playing the Guadalajara Country Club course and will welcome 35 challengers at the one million-dollar tournament.
The third and final LPGA tournament in Mexico this year will provide the final tuneup for next week's season-ending ADT Championship in Florida.
Thirty-two of the top 33 players on the 2008 money list are entered, while sponsors exemptions have gone to veterans Juli Inkster and Laura Davies of Britain — who own a combined 51 LPGA Tour victories.
Colombia's Marisa Baena, Teresa Lu of Taiwan and Mexico's Sophia Sheridan also received sponsor's exemptions.
World number three Annika Sorenstem, her farewell season winding down, will be seeking
her fourth title of the year and her first since she announced she would retire from competition at the end of 2008.
Other multiple 2008 winners entered include four-time winner Paula Creamer of the United States, South Korea's Seon Hwa Lee, who has won twice this year, and Sweden's Helen Alfredsson, also a two-time winner.
Taiwan's Yani Tseng and South Korean Na Yeon Choi, battling for Rookie of the Year honors, are also in the field.
