Germany's Sandra Gal, who opened with an eight-under par 64 on Thursday, remained the leader by one stroke after Friday's completion of the first round of the rain-disrupted Wegmans LPGA.

Darkness halted play with 30 golfers still on the course after a three-hour rain delay, but the late finishers did not close the gap on Gal, who fired the best round of her career to lead South Korean Shin Jiyai by a stroke.

American Becky Lucidi, six-under with three holes remaining when play was halted, completed an opening-round 66 to remain two off the pace as the second round began.

Cheyenne Woods, the 18-year-old niece of men's world number one Tiger Woods, fired a three-over 75 in her LPGA debut. She is playing on a sponsor exemption.

Gal, 24, shared fifth last month at Corning for her best finish in two LPGA seasons.
