South African golfing legend Gary Player, is gearing up for his record 52nd US Masters appearance.

The "Black Knight" will tee it up for the 52nd time next week at Augusta National where he donned the green jacket in 1961, `74 and `78.

This means Player will have spent one full year of his life competing in the Masters, which is traditionally held during the first full week of April.

Three victories, 15 top ten finishes, a record 23 consecutive cuts and 52 years later, Player will join seven fellow South Africans in the field, including last year's Champion Trevor Immelman.

Immelman is the second South African to win a green jacket after Player, who became the first foreign Masters Champion in 1961.
