American Sean O'Hair fired a seven-under par 64 to tie for the lead after the second round of the 7.5 million dollar PGA Deutsche Bank Championship on Saturday.

O'Hair moved into a tie at 12-under 130 with fellow American Jim Furyk, who shared the first-round lead with Steve Stricker.

O'Hair got off to a good start this season but has struggled with his putter in recent weeks.

The 27-year-old can feel more confident now after registering a superb eight-hole stretch Saturday where he went eight-under par.

"When I feel comfortable with my ball striking and I am making putts then I am going to be right there," O'Hair said. "I am giving myself a lot of opportunities for birdies and my swing feels good."

Retief Goosen of South Africa equalled Furyk's four-under 67 and was tied for third at 10-under with Marc Leishman, who just missed the course record with a 62.

World number one Tiger Woods also fired a 67 to move into a share of 28th at five-under-par 137.

Asked if he would have taken a 67 at the start of the day Woods said, "No. You had to go low today."

Woods said the long season and the challenge of coming back from major knee surgery are taking its toll.

"I am more than tired," he said. "It has been a long year. It is what it is.

"One of the reasons I didn't play earlier was so I would be fresh enough and didn't re-injure the knee."

Woods was straddling the cut line for the first 11 holes of the second round. He made birdie on number two but then dropped a shot on the very next hole before make eight straight pars.

He rolled in a five footer for birdie on 12 and a nine footer for birdie on 14.

"I wanted to play the last seven holes in five- or six-under par to get back in the ball game," Woods said.

"After seeing what those guys (Furyk and O'Hair) did today, you had to go low."

Starting from the 10th tee, Furyk made birdie on No. 12 and the par-five 18th.

He began the back nine with a birdie on No. 1 and then did the same on No. 4. Back-to-back birdies on No. 6 and 7 helped him join O'Hair at 12-under.

"Obviously I'm pleased with the finish. To go out there and shoot four-under today and get it to 12-under, I'll be in good position for the last two rounds," Furyk said.

"When I made a mistake or hit a bad shot, I was able to make par most of the time, and I did hit quite a few good shots and set myself up and was able to knock some putts in for birdie."

Justin Leonard (68), Kevin Sutherland (65), Scott Verplank (68), Mike Weir (65), John Senden (64) and Dustin Johnson (65) are tied for fifth at nine- under-par 133.

Geoff Ogilvy (68), Angel Cabrera (69), Padraig Harrington (67) and Jason Day (66) were one shot further back at eight under.
