American dual major winner John Daly has recovered from a rib injury and will take his place in December's Australian Open and Australian PGA Championship, the Australian PGA said on Wednesday.

Daly withdrew from both championships in September citing a flare-up of an old rib injury but said he had recovered sooner than anticipated and would be making the trip to Australia, officials said.

"My recovery from stem cell surgery has been closely monitored by my doctor and I have been cleared to begin playing competitively in two weeks," Daly said in a statement.

"As such, I have added The Viking Classic to my 2009 US schedule plus I have accepted invitations to play in the 2009 Australian Open and Australian PGA Championship.

"I regret the confusion the injury process has caused but I'm relieved things have begun moving in the right direction and I look forward to returning to Australia."

Daly won the US PGA Championship in 1991 and the 1995 British Open and remains one of world golf?s great characters and most popular players.

The American will play alongside Australian golf legend Greg Norman and defending champion Tim Clark of South Africa in the Australian Open, held at the New South Wales Golf Club in Sydney's south from December 3-6.

A week later Daly will be joined by Fijian major winner Vijay Singh and defending champion Geoff Ogilvy for the Australian PGA Championship at Coolum in Queensland from December 10-13.

Both tournaments form the Australian swing of the new One Asia Series.
