Michelle Wie withdrew from the LPGA Tour Championship on Thursday after limping through her first round on a sprained left ankle.

Wie, 20, notched her first professional victory on Sunday when she triumphed in the Lorena Ochoa Invitational at Guadalajara, Mexico.

But the onetime prodigy was unable to build on that success this week. She originally sprained her ankle in the Solheim Cup in August.

Wie went for treatment after her round and withdrew about an hour later.

"I wanted to do everything I could to fight through the injury," Wie said in a statement. "It bothered me last week in Mexico, but I was able to play through the pain. I realized today that I wouldn't be able to continue to play through it."

Wie was three-under through 12 holes. But her ankle gave on her tee shot at 13, where she staggered backward and sliced into the rough en route to her first bogey.

She appeared to be in pain again at 14, and stumbled again on the tee at 17.

"I want to make sure that I'm being smart with it," Wie said. "I will return home to have it looked at by my doctors and follow their advice for treatment."
