Springbok coach Peter de Villiers says he will use the time on his hands to decide who will wear the number 15 jersey for the Boks in the first Test against the British & Irish Lions on 20 June.
De Villiers has a number of options available but he could have made his decision a lot easier by selecting a specialist fullback. JP Pietersen, Jaque Fourie, Earl Rose, Odwa Ndungane, Morne Steyn and Ruan Pienaar are all candidates but experts believe that Frans Steyn should get the nod.
However, the coach was not prepared to shed any light on the matter and he also did not want to say much about the role Steyn would play in the first test in Durban.
"I have time on my side. There is enough time left to decide about that," De Villiers told sport24.
Steyn himself, does not know where De Villiers will use him but the versatile Sharks player, is just happy to be part of the Bok set up.
"I am just really happy to be part of the group. I will even play lock if I have to and really don't mind where I play," he says.
"I do what is best for the team. I wanted to play centre this year at the Sharks, but then Ruan [Pienaar] was injured and I had to play flyhalf," explained Steyn.
However, he admitted that his fullback game was a bit rusty.
"I think I remember playing there once or twice early last year for the Sharks in the Super14. So I don't really have an idea how the rules would allow for that."
