Wed, 24 Jun 2009 12:00
Lions' lock Nathan Hines has been cited for a dangerous tackle during the match at Newlands between the Lions and the Emerging Springboks.
Hines, who was involved in three belligerent incidents in the match has been cited by the match's citing commissioner Steve Hinds of New Zealand.
The judicial officer who will now take over the case is Alan Hudson of Canada.
In the 48th minute of the match Wilhelm Steenkamp of the Emerging Springboks took a short pass from Jano Vermaak and charged ahead to where the two Lions' locks, Donncha O'Callaghan and Nathan Hines were waiting for him. O'Callaghan tackled Steenkamp head on but Hines lifted him up buy his lower legs. This caused his feet to be well above the rest of his body and virtually perpendicular to the ground. Holding him Nathan fell to ground with Steenkamp below him.
