Five-time champion Roger Federer eased into the Wimbledon third round on Wednesday with a 6-2, 6-2, 6-4 win over Spain's Guillermo Garcia-Lopez.

Federer, bidding for a record 15th Grand Slam title, will play either Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany or Ivo Minar of the Czech Republic for a place in the last 32.

"All three sets were pretty similar. He was close to winning the first game and then I broke. He made the semifinals in Eastbourne last week, so I couldn't afford to underestimate him," said Federer.

The Swiss star raced to a 4-1 lead in the first set and then enjoyed another double break in the second against his 26-year-old, outclassed opponent.

Victory was secured after just 90 minutes on court.

"I didn't have to play my very best today. I had to be solid and that's what I was," added the second seed.

"There are many rounds to pass and there will be guys who have nothing to lose against me. But I'm confident and I'm playing great."
