Kaizer Chiefs beat SuperSport United 2-1 to win the annual Eastern Cape Premier's Cup at the new Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Saturday evening.

The game started a high pace tempo with both teams throwing everything at each other, but it was 'Amakhosi' who took the lead through George Lebese in the 26th minute.

Mandla Masango — who was the provider in the Lebese goal — almost doubled the Chiefs lead in the 34th minute, but his shot was saved by SuperSport goalkeeper Dennis Onyango.

SuperSport winger Lerato Chabangu came close to pulling one back for 'Matsatsantsa a Pitori' five minutes later, but his goal bound freekick was deflected for a corner by Chiefs 'keeper Kabelo Metsimetsi.

The score remained 1-0 in favour of Chiefs at half-time.

SuperSport started the second half the better of the two teams and it came as no surprise when former Chiefs fan favourite Siyabonga Nkosi equalised for Matsatsantsa with a stunning long range shot.

SuperSport's celebrations, however, were shortlived as Josta Dladla regained Chiefs lead just nine minutes later when he beat the offside trap before lobbing the ball past the advancing Onyango.

The goal was to prove to be the winning goal as Chiefs went on to win the match 2-1 thereby giving new coach Vladimir Vermezovic his first silverware in the Chiefs coaching post.

Earlier in the day, SuperSport beat Bloemfontein Celtic 2-1 to advance to the final, while Chiefs walloped home team Bay United 2-0 to book themselves a spot in the final.
