It will be a super confident Western Province team that will head to Pretoria on Saturday to tackle the Blue Bulls in the biggest domestic derby, in a Currie Cup Round Two encounter.
Following their effective demolition of the defending champions, a 29-15 win over The Sharks, Province will face a Bulls team that looked decidedly off-colour in edging the Golden Lions 19-13 at the weekend.
WP coach Allister Coetzee described the weekend's three-tries-to-none victory over the Sharks as an "ideal build-up to the Bulls game".
"We started shifting the focus in the last three or four games of the Super 14 to this first game of the Currie Cup," he said of the win at the weekend.
"Now that we've got over this first hurdle, we can focus on the Blue Bulls.
"It is important that we keep the momentum going. We played well against the British and Irish Lions and we had a good friendly [against Eastern Province] to test our depth.
"One must remember that we still missing players. We are still without Brian Mujati, Francois Louw, Adriaan Fondse and Duane Vermeulen. Pieter Myburgh came in, and starting at this intensity, he did well.
"So I am very happy with the momentum that we have built. We have just got to keep our feet on the ground and keep working on it. Currie Cup is a race, not a marathon.
"You've got to start somewhere and getting four points was crucial for us, especially in the conditions."
Coetzee admitted there are areas where they need to improve and one of those areas is kicking.
Province captain Luke Watson was also looking forward to the Bulls encounter with confidence.
"We want to go there [Loftus] and have a fantastic performance and come away with a victory," Watson said.
Watson praised his tight five for their big effort against a powerful Sharks unit and felt they would be a match for the powerful Bulls pack.
"Our tight five has come under tremendous criticism over the past couple of years and seasons. But if you look at the end of the Super 14, and how the guys played against the Cheetahs, and how they continued that form right through to the British and Irish Lions game and to this game," he said.
