Ricky Januarie, released from the Springbok squad for domestic duty this week, has been overlooked by Western Province ahead of their Currie Cup Round Six match against Boland in Wellington on Saturday.
Januarie, one of several Boks cleared to play in this weekend's Currie Cup matches, will be idle - watching from the sidelines.
WP coach Allister Coetzee, who agrees that Januarie needs game-time in order to keep him in shape for international duty, will again field Dewaldt Duvenage at No.9 - when Province clash with the Boland Cavaliers. Another Bok, Bolla Conradie, will be on the WP bench.
WP, smarting from their narrow defeat to Griquas in Kimberley last Friday, will field pretty much the same team that went down 32-33 in Kimberley.
The only change to the starting XV sees Adriaan Fondse starting in the second row alongside All Black Chris Jack, with Anton van Zyl dropping down to the bench.
Coetzee said he was not informed early enough of Januarie's availability, which is why he is starting with Duvenage at No.9.
"We heard on Monday that the Bulls were able to use Chiliboy Ralepelle and Gurthro Steenkamp in their match against Griquas, so I don't understand why we weren't informed then that Ricky is available," the WP coach said.
"We were only told on Tuesday, which is too late to bring him in as all our plans have been made."
Coetzee said he would also have liked to use Bok lock Andries Bekker, who has not played a full game for a couple of months after being injured for the second half of the Super 14 season.
Bekker, like Januarie, has been used only off the bench by the Boks over the past few weeks, but there may come a time when he will be forced by an emergency into playing a more important role.
