BidVest Wits will be looking to bounce back to winning ways when they host Maritzburg United to the Bidvest Stadium on Wednesday evening (kick-off 8pm).

Wits kicked-off their season by losing 3-1 to Kaizer Chiefs in the quarterfinal of the top eight cup, though the score line certainly flattered the Soweto side.

The 'Clever Boys' then played to a 2-2 draw in their opening league fixture away to AmaZulu. Calvin Kadi scored a brace for the Johannesburg team and will be keen to continue the fine form he has shown in the early part of the season.

Maritzburg claimed something of a surprise result when they held reigning league champions SuperSport United to a 1-1 draw on the opening day of the Absa Premiership season.

Morgan Gould had given the Pretoria side a 1-0 lead but the Team of Choice hit back through former SuperSport player Noah Chivuta and earned a well deserved point.

Wits and United have met just four times in the top flight. The 'Clever Boys' have won twice, the Team of Choice once, and one game has ended in a draw.

The 'Clever Boys' spanked Maritzburg 4-1 in the first half of last season, with Ashraf Hendricks, Dale Studzinski, Sifiso Myeni and Richard Rantjie scoring for the 'Clever Boys'. Sipho Mngomezulu scored the visitors? consolation goal.

However, United took revenge in the return game, winning 2-1 thanks to goals from Mngomezulu and Dikulu Bageta.

Interestingly, Mngomezulu, who scored for Maritzburg in both league matches last season, has since joined Wits, the club he started his professional career with.
