The Highveld Lions will receive a major boost in the ongoing SuperSport Series four-day competition with England left-arm spin bowler Monty Panesar joining them as the team's overseas professional.
The Lions announced on Monday that Panesar would be available in mid-October as they look to climb from third place on the log with a loss and a draw from two matches.
"I am delighted to be joining the Lions as the overseas professional for the South African domestic season this English winter," Panesar said in a statement.
"To play first class cricket for such a prestigious team is a privileged opportunity, and one which I am relishing.
"Having practiced with (head coach) Dave Nosworthy and the Lions players last January for 10 days prior to going to the West Indies with England, I know what superb facilities and friendly people await me in Johannesburg."
Panesar said he would be assisting in the development of the sport in South Africa during his stay.
"I welcome the opportunity to work with young cricketers and their coaches in South Africa, to support the next generation of people achieve their dreams in whatever way I can."
Got something to say?
