JP Duminy led the Cape Cobras to a five-wicket victory over the Royal Challengers Bangalore with a unbeaten knock of 99 in the opening match of the Champions League Twenty20 at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on Thursday.

Needing 181 runs to win, Duminy, who surpassed his previous best T20 score of 93, ensured that the Cobras did the job with two balls to spare, smashing eight fours and five sixes in his knock.

The Proteas star came to the crease with his side at 14/2 and shared in three partnerships worth 41 runs or more with Henry Davids, Justin Ontong and Ryan Canning ? the latter adding a vital 61 runs.

Earlier, Robin Uthappa and Ross Taylor both hit half-centuries to boost Bangalore to their score of 180. Uthappa smashed 51 off 39 before Taylor provided the late fireworks with a brutal unbeaten 53 off just 24 balls.

But in the end it was not enough as Duminy stole the final plaudits with his sublime knock, and it was just a pity for the Cobras hero that he was left stranded on 99, as Rory Kleinveldt hit the final runs to seal the victory.
