Western Province coach Allister Coetzee has denied reports suggesting that he is a frontrunner for the Golden Lions' Director of Coaching position.
The closing date for applications is on Friday and Golden Lions Rugby Union Chief Executive Manie Reyneke told this website that eight world class CVs are on his desk - including from New Zealand, Australia and England.
The Lions are expected to announce the name of the new Director of Rugby by next Friday, October 16 but Reyneke dismissed the suggestion that they have already decided on the position they advertised this week.
According to media reports Stormers head coach Rassie Erasmus has been informed of Coetzee's desire to coach at Super 14 level with Robbie Fleck likely to take over Coetzee's role as the Stormers' backline coach next year.
Jake White's 'Winning Ways' company may also continue their association with the union and Coetzee, like his namesake Hans, is a close ally of White - having been his assistant throughout White's four-year term as Bok coach.
However, Coetzee stressed that is currently contracted to WP Rugby until the end of 2010.
"I am currently under contract and happy at WP. My focus at the moment is solely on maintaining Province's momentum in this year's Currie Cup," said Coetzee.

Got something to say?
