Henry Davids and JP Duminy combined to lead the Cape Cobras to victory over Victoria in their T20 Champions League match on Saturday.

The game started late after a bomb scare forced police to search the ground and the result was a 17-over format instead of the regular 20.

The South Africans were clearly rattled by the incident and Herschelle Gibbs and Ryan Canning never took the field, presumably because of the bomb scare.

But the game got off to the right kind of bang when Cobras seamer Monde Zondeki picked up two wickets in his first over.

Aiden Blizzard started the counter-attack, but his cameo ended when Rory Kleinveldt had him caught at extra cover.

David Hussey and captain Cameron White then combined for a useful 32, and they were just shifting into top gear when Hussey slammed Duminy over long-on for six. Duminy again showed his partnership-breaking ability when he had Hussey edging to Kleinveldt at point.

It was left to Matthew Wade and Andrew McDonald to propel Victoria in the final stages. They piled on 31 in the final three overs to give their side a more respectable total.

Derek Brand got the Cobras off to a great start with a brutal knock, and while Victoria got some reprieve when Brand was run out, Davids immediately got on top of them.

Davids, combined with Duminy, then took the game away from them with a finely struck half-century to wrap things up.
