Ajax Cape Town beat high-flying Bloemfontein Celtic 1- 0 at the Newlands Stadium on Sunday afternoon - their first Absa Premiership win in Cape Town this season.

Overall it was a tightly contested game which saw both sides missing good chances to score, with Ajax possibly just doing enough to have shaded Celtic to deserve their three point haul, thanks to Sifiso Vilakazi?s late goal.

The two side's exchanged chances in the opening 15 minutes as Franklin Cale and Thulani Serero shot wide from distance for Ajax, while for the visiting side, Tlou Segolela had a 18-yard shot saved by Hans Vonk and Cecil Oerson sent a free kick just over the bar.

The Urban Warriors then had two excellent chances as Lance Davids? grass-cutter from 25-yards out looked destined to become a goal until Patrick Tignyemb made a brilliant save, and then, in the 18th minute, Serero sent a header way over the bar, when he looked certain to score from directly in front of goal.

Celtic had an equally good chance to score three minutes before the break when Thulani Hlatshwayo made a hash of his clearance; the ball fell kindly for Prince Olomu, but the Nigerian smashed his shot over the bar from only eight yards out.

Ajax had an early chance in the second half as French defender Derek Decamps came close to scoring with a header, sending Sameehg Doutie?s free kick inches past the upright.

Following that chance, Ajax began to take control of the match, but only had a couple of off-target long range efforts from Cale and George Maluleka to show for their efforts.

However, in the 82nd minute substitute Mohammed Diallo showed more urgency as he cut in on goal from the right wing before seeing his well-struck shot being deflected wide.

But four minutes later Ajax were finally rewarded for their efforts when Vilakazi made his aerial presence count as he showed perfect technique to head Cale?s cross into the back of the net.
