Blackburn Rovers and Bafana Bafana striker Benni McCarthy is set to join Portsmouth on loan in the January transfer window.

According to people.co.uk, McCarthy wants some first-team action to keep alive his slim hopes of an international call-up before his country hosts the World Cup. He is unlikely to get it at Ewood.

Spanish clubs Espanyol and Deportivo La Coruna are reportedly also interested in the South African marksman.

If McCarthy's move to Portsmouth does go through, he would be the second South African player to join Pompey after Bafana captain Aaron Mokoena also joined Portsmouth from Blackburn earlier this year.
