Stars look for second win
Tue, 03 Nov 2009 12:00
Free State Stars will look for just their second win of the season when they host AmaZulu for an Absa Premiership match at the Goble Park Stadium on Wednesday afternoon (kick-off 3.30pm).
Stars may have won just once this season, but they come into this midweek game off the back of three successive away draws: 2-2 against Santos and 1-1 against both BidVest Wits and Maritzburg United in the last week.
'Ea Lla Koto' have lost three of their home games this season, including their last league match in the Free State which saw them go down 1-0 at the hands of Platinum Stars.
AmaZulu have struggled thus far in the 2009/10 Absa Premiership season. The KwaZulu-Natal side went down 2-0 at home to Santos on the weekend. It was their seventh loss in just 13 games.
"I think we lost from our collective mistakes. We have gone back to the drawing board and this time we will not let any team capitalize on any mistakes," AmaZulu midfielder Tsweu Mokoro told the club's official website.
He added: "It is going to be tough playing Free State Stars at home, especially coming from a loss. However, I feel the result has made us stronger and more determined."
Stars and AmaZulu have the same number of points (12 from 13 league rounds) but 'Ea Lla Koto' have a better goal difference (-1 versus -8) and thus lie in 12th place, one position ahead of their upcoming opponents.
'Ea Lla Koto' and AmaZulu have met 35 times in the top flight since 1986. The Free State side have won 14 games to 'Usuthu's 13 and outscored them 47 goals to 42.
In 18 home league fixtures for Stars against the KwaZulu-Natal side, they have won 10 matches and lost six.
Last season Stars did a league double over AmaZulu, winning 3-2 at home and 1-0 away.
