The 26-year-old flyer also spoke at length about playing with Fourie in domestic competitions, after they first teamed up at the Lions in an Under-16 competition, taking up a senior/leadership role in the Cape Town-based outfit and the expectations that will come with the arrival of such high-profile international stars.
"The first time I played rugby with Jaque for the Lions [senior team] was in 2003/2004, but my first ever trip with Jaque was actually for the Lions Under-16 side to Namibia in 1999," Habana told iafrica.com.
"We have come a long way and he became a Springbok before me. He really was an unbelievable rugby player as a youngster... Me, I have had to work a lot harder," he quipped.
"Jaque and myself played outside centre at the Lions, so we didn't play together that much ... it was either him or me. But when he moved to fullback, I played about three or four games with him [at fullback].
"He has had an unbelievable year [in 2009] and it is a bit sad that he hasn't been able to play much rugby in the last while [since Tri-Nations ? following a three-week ban and then a protracted legal battle with the Lions over his planned move to Cape Town].
"I think it is a great challenge for him to come here and prove his worth as a rugby player again."
He said they will "definitely" be cast in leadership roles at the Stormers.
"We have both played 50 Tests for our country and we have both been part of a World Cup-winning team," said the Bok try-machine.
"I have fortunately been part of a team winning the Super 14 [twice] and have had Currie Cup success. Jaque has been playing Super Rugby since 2002/2003 ? he's been on the international circuit for seven years now. Also, the experience he has with the Boks ? he's been to two World Cups and he has won one.
A great core of senior players in Cape Town
"So we are coming here as senior players and we have got to come here to make a difference as senior players.
"You obviously also have guys like Tiaan Liebenberg, Andries Bekker, Schalk Burger ? who have been here for a while. Then there is Peter Grant, who is a Springbok, Willem de Waal, who has won a couple of Currie Cups as well.
"So, there is a great core of senior players at the moment.
"I know we still have to meet all our teammates, but our responsibility is definitely going to be as senior players.
"We have to come down here and make a contribution as such."
He admitted the success-starved Western Cape fans would be expecting big performances from such experienced players, but he was not going to predict that it would be easy.
"I must say up front, Jaque and myself are not coming here to be the saving grace of Western Province," Habana told this website.
"We are definitely coming here to make as big a difference as we possible can," he said, adding that they were "very excited" about the challenges that lie ahead.
"I've been able to be a part of Newlands, be that for the Bulls or Springboks, and seeing how passionate these people are for their rugby is really fantastic.
"We are coming here to make a difference.
It's all about silverware, says Habana
"Province were one high tackle away from getting into a home final [in the Currie Cup]. We definitely want to come here and be part of the success of Western Province rugby. We are not going to promise that we are immediately going to win a Super 14, but we are coming here to make a difference and hopefully that difference will lead to Western Province being succesful."
Asked what it meant to him to move to Cape Town, having already bagged a World Cup winner's medal, two Super 14 titles, a series victory against the B&I Lions, a Tri-Nations championship and Currie Cup success, Habana sees himself sharing those experiences with the younger players and ? hopefully ? enriching them.
"Victor [Matfield, the Blue Bulls captain] probably said it best after the Currie Cup Final when he said: 'With winning you want to win some more'.
"Coming down to Province, I would definitely like to share some of my knowledge and experience of what I have been able to achieve in the last four/five years as part of the Bok and Bulls set-ups.
"Province have a huge opportunity and there's a lot of ingredients that can lend towards the success of the union and the brand.
"Hopefully by Jaque Fourie and myself coming here, and a guy like Lionel Cronje [from the Free State Cheetahs], we can add to that.
"Province were a high tackle away from getting into a home Final in the Currie Cup. It is an exciting time [coming to WP/Stormers].
"It was quite sad and emotional leaving that part of my life [the Bulls]. It has been my life for the last five years and ending off that chapter and starting as new one is emotional. I am looking forward to hopefully making a difference, not only in Western Province but in the Western Cape as well."
