The Highveld Lions beat the Dolphins by six wickets to maintain their charge for a semifinal berth in their Standard Bank Pro20 match at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom on Friday.

Chasing the Dolphins' 159 for five the Lions reached 162 for four with five balls of their innings remaining.

The result moved the Lions into a tie for fourth place on the table, on the same amount of points as the Diamond Eagles, which makes the match between the two teams in Bloemfontein on Sunday a virtual quarter-final.

Vaughn van Jaarsveld (40) and Neil McKenzie (46) set up the Lions' innings with a second-wicket stand of 69 runs before Zander de Bruyn (23 not out) and Dane Vilas (20 not out) saw their team home.

Earlier, David Miller blasted his way to an unbeaten half-century to propel the Dolphins to their final total.

Miller produced some devastating hitting as he raced to 90 not out off just 52 balls with his innings containing eight fours and four massive sixes.

The left-handed Miller came to the wicket with his team in trouble at eight for three but he shrugged off the difficult situation to race to his maiden Pro20 fifty off a mere 29 deliveries.

Miller and Imraan Khan (21) put on 77 runs for the fourth wicket before Khaya Zondo (32) and Miller cracked 70 runs for the fifth wicket.

Seamers Robbie Frylinck, with two for 24, and Ethan O'Reilly, with two for 20, were the most successful bowlers for the home side.
