South African endurance runner Ryan Sandes made history on Saturday after winning the Attacama Crossing in Chile to become the first person ever to win all three deserts in the Deserts Series.
Sandes, who shot to prominence in 2008 after winning the Gobi Desert Race, completed the entire 250km self supporting race in under 24 hours. He won all five stages of the race.
The Cape Town runner, who has also won the Sahara Race (2008) and the Jungle Marathon in the Amazon (2009), next heads to Antarctica in November to compete in the Final Desert, which could make him the first person to win all four deserts in Racing the Planet?s 4 Deserts series.
