Following their impressive showing at the World Cup, South Africa have moved up 17 places to position 66 in the latest FIFA/Coca Cola World rankings.
South Africa - who registered a win (against France), a draw (against Mexico) and a loss (against Uruguay) in the World Cup - also climbed 17 places to 12th in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) rankings.
This latest move will come as a relief to Bafana Bafana stars like Teko Modise, Katlego Mphela and Siphiwe Tshabalala who have all been linked with moves to England where a top 70 position is a pre-requirement.
Meanwhile, new world champions Spain moved to the top of the rankings and runners up Holland took the second spot.
Semi-finalists Germany and Uruguay also moved up in the rankings with Uruguay being the biggest movers as they moved 10 places to position six.
Not surprisingly, Ghana are the top ranked African team at number 23 followed by Ivory Coast at number 26.
Cameroon are the biggest losers in Africa. The Indomitable Lions have moved down 21 places to position 40.
