The Welsh players are still trying to digest their 17-43 defeat to South Africa in the first Test in Bloemfontein at the weekend, but assistant coach Robin McBryde is confident that they can still turn things around.
"We're still busy with soul-searching," he said at a media conference on Monday. Every player, McBryde said, had done soul-searching to ascertain what their part in the defeat was. "Overall it was very disappointing. We worked hard for the tour, although it didn't show on the field on Saturday," he said, and emphasised that Wales must use all their chances. Neil Jenkins, kicking coach of the team, said that the tactical kicking and kicking in general were below par. "We cannot afford to give Butch James as many chances as we did on Saturday. That put us under pressure and in trying to catch up we made more mistakes." Wales may well announce their side for the second Test as early as Tuesday.Sapa
