A former manager of South Africa's national football team, Phil Setshedi, was convicted for match fixing, the country's football association said on Monday.
Setshedi, nicknamed "Mr Jones", was convicted in a Cape Town court "after being found guilty of an attempt to unduly and improperly influence the outcome" in play-offs for promotion to the second tier, the South African Football Association (Safa) said in a statement.
"This is the first time the South African Football Association has secured such a historic conviction."
Sentencing hearings will take place next year.
Setshedi was assistant coach to national team Bafana Bafana which won the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations.
He also coached Orlando Pirates.
