It's not about the coach
");
document.write("Everyone has been baying for the blood of the coach. While Div maybe coming up short in a few areas, the real blame for the kak rugby lies at the feet of the players. Sat they showed some heart... the other day's they just played for their pay cheques. Mike");

document.write("I can't understand why South Africans are bezotted over EJ. He had success at ACT in 2001 and a semi final for Oz at WC 2003.
He then coached Wallabies to 8/ 9 loses and had contract erminated with 2 yrs left. Lowest of any Oz coach.
Queensland 2007, last possition with 2 home wins in S14 including that big thrashing (92 - 3) vs Bulls. Our own home grown Dick Muir, has a fantastic S14 record with the Sharks -- but not one mention from your learned reporters.I think he was at Coke park of Saturday, backline coach or beer carrier ?. ");
document.write("I think Rob has it spot on. ! His argument is as usual practical, fair and well thought out.
I remember writing to him last year and discussing his thoughts on how Div would manage the Boks and his thoughts then were -
\" lets give him a chance.\"
Well now Div you have had your chances and come up seriously wanting in all areas where a National coach should score significantly higher. All those points made by Rob in his debate summary are true and without malice.
deVilliers has all the detractions of a small mans complex - Egotistical,Self Centred, Dogmatic, Stubborn and worst of all bull headed. Add this to his patent lack of understanding of the game at this level and one has a recipe for disaster.
Time to change or be changed Div. It`s crunch time ! COACH PROPERLY OR BE DROPPED.
And one last thing especially for PdV. if he thinks he cant be dropped because it will cost R 5m to buy him off the staff,he had best think again. This is one of the richest rugby unions in the world because Oregon H. also has his cushy little job to think of.. Charles Armstrong ");

document.write("The arresting statistic after Saturday's game was the number of third and more phase plays the Springboks made in 80 minutes. How many, do you think? The answer is one. That's right. One. So where did all that ball that we played with come from?
Only Basil Bey seems to understand that PdV's game-plan is not about 'expansive' rugby, its about 'continuous' rugby, where you avoid slowing your ball by going to ground. There was little phase-play (and few penalties) because that is not PdV's game plan. The Springboks made a point of passing before the tackle, or in the tackle, denying the defence time to regroup. They even overcame white-line fever after a momentary lapse. The Springboks finally executed the PdV approach when they had nothing to lose. Pity they didn't do so before. Now maybe they’ll believe in it.
Continuous rugby can be high-risk, and PdV will lose some and win some, but Saturday was the day when, for all their smokescreens and excuses, he made his critics look pretty dumb. Howard has redeemed himself, Rob is in the pack.
Oh, and guess who has the best Springbok Tri-Nations record over the past three years?
. Fred B-H");

document.write("Whatever one thinks of PdV's coaching ability and his achievements, the least he deserves is a reasonable chance to prove his point. I would think that 2 full seasons gives him ample chance to prove his worth. In the end results and finances (gate money)will be his undoingor his success.
It serves no purpose to blame the players. They play as they are coached. The coach carries full responsibility for success or failure. That is the lure of coaching at any level - on the one side glory and on the other the sack. Let's leave the coach's race out of the debate.. Graham Bam");
