Smith: Bowlers cost us
"); document.write("Mr. Smith seems convenientlyt to have forgotten his and other top batsmens rotten form in this series. How can it be that a man so young suffers short term memory los?. Charles Armstrong "); document.write("
Smith is milky
"); document.write("Smith has been to coward or too egotistical to admit that he had a large role to play in the crumble of our cricket team. How is it that a player like Kevin Pietersen can just step into the English captaincy and win not just a lucky one time, but one test match and 4 ODI's. That is no luck, that is decent captaining. He has the fire to be the captain of his team, and even though he hails from S.A, he is proudly accepting the challenge of captain for England and has a passion for it, anyone can see it, though most South African's, myself included cannot stand his presence on a cricket field. Even though I do not like K.P, his Gusto has brought his team victory straight after a test series defeat. Graeme Smith must tranfuse the milk in his veins for real South African blood and step up. It makes no difference that he is injured. Much of what goes on mentally in a cricket match is mental, and the captain has a big part to play off the field. Graeme is looking for people to blame, batsmen, bowlers, you name it, but it's about time he looked at the name and number on the back of his shirt and he needs to remember why he is where he is and do something about getting back to the top. An injured elbow doesn't warrant an injured spirit. That's just not cricket.... Tanya"); document.write("
Shameful Smith
"); document.write("I agree with both Tanya and Charles. Drop Smith as captain and make somebody who has the guts and ability Captain - Someone like McKenzie who does njot blame everyone else for the teams loss. It is surprising how often Smith becomes injured when the team is losing. Peter"); document.write("
Short-term memories
"); document.write("Are you guys forgetting Smith's match-winning ton that sealed the Test series for SA?

Come on, he was playing with an injury in the ODIs and has shown over the past two years that he is the right man to captain the team.

Stop being so fickle and accept the fact that we will lose a series every now and again.

Smith has become a lot more mature and humble since the early days and while you are all quick to punt KP, you are equally quick to dismiss Smith.

Bizarre... but ultimately typical of fairweather SA supporters. . george"); document.write("
SMITH who dunnit ?
"); document.write("Sorry George, but you seem to have missed the point.
Point being that it was not only the bowlers who lost us these games as Smith would try to have the media believe.
Insofar, as playing injured is concerned, I shall concede your point, as long as we can agree that it was brain injured.. Charles Armstrong "); document.write("
On the contrary
"); document.write("I do not deny that Graeme Smith can play well, which is why he is ranked amongst the top in the world. I am merely pointing out that he blamed those men on the field who played without him in his leadership position. He can not blame Jacques Kallis, the bowlers, or anyone else is what I'm saying. I am not saying that he should play with his injury, that is stupid, but he should encouragethe boys from behind the scenes. Yes he should point out their faults to them, so that they can work on them and improve them. The game is not just physical. It grieves me to punt K.P, but no one can deny that he's doing a great job with his team. We don't blame Smith for being injured, it's natural, and so is having some out of form matches like Jacques Kallis is currently having, but we need to stop playing this blame game within the team and just get on with the actual game. Cricket is an extreme passion/borderline obsession for me and I will always support South Africa, even when we're losing, because I truly love the game, which is why i would like to see Graeme backing all sides of his team, and if he has a problem with the selection and he thinks the order should change, he should speak up about it. He must remember that the bowlers have been straining themselves as we've been playing constantly for so long. They are bound to feel the toll of it. I also think whilst we are trying to build our team up again, we should bring new players into our squad and freshen things up. Let the youngsters get a few notches on their belts. So don't get me wrong George, I am an avid cricket supporter and you don't have to agree with my opinions, I am merely trying to understand why Graeme Smith isn't blaming the whole team. .
