And he did it fairly by taking on Federer and beating him on his own turf.  Phelps was brilliant but the one niggling result is receiving gold when he in fact came second.  Had he shown the good grace to decline, he would have been the worthy winner of \"SPORTSMAN of the YEAR\".  That would have made him a greater champion then eight (-1 that was stolen) golds, and therein lies the pity, its just that one gold that rinkles on in memory.  Felipe Massa was also great - lost as close 2 definite victories as is possible without actually winning and the twenty points that go with it in Hungary and Singapore only to lose the Title by a point in close to a hundred (97 vs 98).  Not once did he complain about his team, nor did he belittle Hamilton's achievement by pointing to his misfortune. document.write("Not to take away from Michael's amazing run at the olymics, but.  Michael recieved a medal for each race he swam. Rafael Nadal didn't get a medal for each match he won during the olympics.  His medal came at the end of a very grueling multi match week and he did it in the unbelievable heat that makes it hard to breath let alone play tennis at such a masterful level.  Rafa also did won multi high profile matches at the French Open and Wimbledon (which again was a compilation of multiple matches and conditions.  I cast my vote for Nadal.  A sportsman that not only brought the goods to the table, but stayed for the feast with humility and grace!. Cindy");
